The Friends of the Charlemont Fairgrounds is a 501 (c)(3) organized for the purpose of restoring the Charlemont Fairgrounds. Volunteers from the Friends of the Charlemont Fairgrounds produce Yankee Doodle Days at the end of every July as their major annual event. Over the years we have built the information booth and the horse/ox draw arena and stands. We have also brought the restrooms and the Exhibition Hall up to code, which has added much enjoyment to our fair.
Representatives of the Friends of the Charlemont Fairgrounds have worked with the Massachusetts Historical Commission to put the application in order to submit for Historical Nomination of the grounds. A small percentage of members hopes to one day see the grandstands restored to their original state. There is a larger group that thinks the grandstand is beyond restoration, and the Fairgrounds should be used and enjoyed in its current state. If you have an opinion, please consider joining to become a part of the conversation – and the fun!
